I accompanied a friend to Castle Towers last week for some fast Friday night fashion. Normally a very cautious investment dresser I was suddenly overtaken by the urge to splurge. I felt the need for speed, I wanted to shop til I dropped. Normally I won’t part with my cash until I have poured over the catalogue, checked what the competition is offering and waited for the VIP discount to arrive in my letterbox (thank you Country Road).
But not this time.
Before I knew what I had done I had parted with $200 on ten items that I could hardly recall I had bought. Generally I can tell you which investment pieces I had bought two years previously. Goodness knows I spend enough time mulling over whether to buy them I would want to remember! With my fast Friday night fashion hardly a week has gone by before they have faded into obscurity.
I vaguely remember heading into Tree of Life before sin of all sins I picked up a pure cotton broidery anglaise camisole that would put Third Millennium to shame, a pair of white sailor front cotton pants and an oversized turquoise beaded necklace, all for the princely sum of 89 bucks. Without trying them on! This could easily form the foundation of my summer wardrobe.
Next stop Mirage where it was crazy, crazy, crazy! We’ve got dresses, sequin tops that shimmer, LBDS that rock, manstyle pants, high waisted pants, we are going pants crazy! But wait there’s more but I just can’t type fast enough to keep up!
Tightrope, the store with more held its secrets tightly with the best white smock top I have seen from any designer yet, Jackie O would be proud. Lucky for me I had stopped long enough to draw breath to remember that I do not and never have had the legs to carry off a smock top but at $29.95 surely I had a friend who could get some use out of it!
Even the makeup was racing out the door! Revlon juicy tubes for $6.95 each, I had to grab a few of those. The poor counter girl was ambushed by my excitement. I had rammed my hands into pots of glitter eye shadow and enough pink cream blush that I could reinvent myself as Kristy the Clown, it was like UNI days all over again. And since when do I wear Revlon??
Heading to the car at 8.59pm on the dot I managed to charm the Cotton On guys into keeping the store open one more minute while I reefed their DIVINE ribbed cotton cardis over my neck. Yep they fit. At $15 each I was taking one home in every colour. And by the way they wash like a dream. I regret that I didn’t pick up the white jeans at $39.95 and perhaps (wishful thinking) could’ve come home with their skinny jeans in more colours than the rainbow.
Phew……………..
Although I did suffer from a little buyers remorse on the way home I have to admit it was fun to unpack so many purchases for the same price I normally pay for a top. Although it does take more time to hide the receipts!
