With the stop on racing it might be preemptive to start thinking about fashions on the field but I say better prepared for a non event than not prepared at all!

With the weather caressing us with the gentle breeze of spring its time to banish all black and starting thinking about our spring racing wardrobe.

Even if you aren’t a big fan of the game and like me every year you are given the title of designated wine fetcher, there really is nothing better than glamming up the morning of and meeting your girlfriends for the best people watching this side of the French Riviera.

Over the next few weeks I’m going to run you through a crash course in dressing for the races spring 2007. Who’s got the best in show, everything from frocks, fedoras and French manicures to get you looking your best for race day.

Last week you might have caught my French dressing special. Without sounding repetitious you still want the French Connection silver sequin shift. This will take you to the races in style. It also means minimal accessories are needed as there is enough bling on this dress to sink the Titanic.

I always rely on the foolproof labels to get me through spring racing season. At the top end Leona Edmiston, Tim O’Connor, Lisa Ho and Collette Dinnigan are the first out of the gate with the new shapes plus a few classics thrown in for extra measure. Metallics and graphic prints play a huge role at Lisa Ho with frocks embellished with mega rocks - again play down the accessories with these ones ladies.

Leona Edmiston, the queen of the frock has done it again with a definite 40’s wartime skew to her collection this season. Full of puffed sleeves “the puffiest”, silk taffeta and hydrangea prints its one you can definitely dress down for Sunday lunch at Nan’s.

For the girl that wears the pants you might be surprised to hear the name Collette Dinnigan. Better known as the women in the silk gown, this spring Dinnigan has hit her stride with the best separates combos in town. Luxurious fabrications that slide over so softly over the skin. I say when you find the perfect wide leg beige pant snap it up! Match it back with a silk halter neck top – no bra straps showing please and that includes clear plastic ones, yes we can see them.

As for the male darling of the fashion pack Tim O’Connor is great for a label that you are less likely to see standing in the marquee next to you. The cream silk bustier cocktail dress is a classic that will ensure loads of accessories possibilities. It’s a great classic to have on hand for the many wedding invites you will get as spring progresses. And if you are a lucky lady awaiting a proposal its definitely one to wear to Café Sydney should you get the invite. It won’t date and will help even out any redness in your over excited skin tone. His silk printed keyhole frock has a good chance of taking home fashions on the field this year. Its also a great pregnancy option as its very forgiving around the mid section. For those of you further than five months who still want to feel fabulous the Lisa Ho silver trapeze maxi dress is the one to go for. Another one I can guarantee you will get your wear out of.

Its hard to go wrong with these designers. They all have a number of options that suit everyone from the very petite to those of us who need to get a start on our spring crash diets……

Tune in next week as we check out the best of Australia’s mid range labels and chainstore buys.
