Ghosts of the past come to life in Sophie Kyron's latest collection. Not everyone can say they draw their creative inspiration from a past life as an Indian princess – We guess that’s what makes Sophie Kyron’s designs so amazingly unique…
A leap of faith.
Even the promise of a promotion couldn’t entice Sophie Kyron away from the life of a jewellery designer. Working in the corporate world with jewellery making already an absorbing past-time, Sophie gave up her thriving career and took a leap of faith.
“I used to make jewellery at night, just to relax. I was selling it around Perth and everytime I had delivered the stock they would sell out,” Sophie says. Sensing a successful venture, the rest, as they say, is history.
It's all in the blood.
From her first attempts at making earrings for her Barbie at the age of 8‚ jewellery design was in Sophie Kyron’s blood.
“I used to wake up really early in the morning, pinch dad’s pliers and make earrings for my Barbie dolls,” Sophie recalls.
Amidst a household of creativity Sophie found inspiration in the colours and designs of her Greek heritage, which have made an impression on her designs until this day.
A philosophy to live by.
Establishing her eponymous label in 1990, it was Sophie's eclectic use of materials – fabric, vintage finds, beads and semi-precious stones - that have provided jewellery fanatics with the necessary mix of both elegance and durability.
Sophie's philosophy that jewellery can lift a mood or pull a look together compel her to create bold and timeless pieces that turn the simplest of garments into statements.
The essence of Marie Antoinette lives on.
Sophie’s Autumn/Winter collection brings us the decadence and femininity of old world France. Titled ‘Ghosts of Versailles’ the essence of Louis XVI and Marie Antoinette can be found in Gold leaf scroll earrings and intricate carved neckpieces.
Hand carved wood pieces characterise the collection, along with the addition of real roses dipped in resin, and Sophie’s signature mix of crystal and glass beads, mother of pearl and feathers.
Transforming an outfit is easily accomplished by adding a statement Fleur de Lys neckpiece and earrings or a Pompidou necklace in the collection’s signature colours of dusty pink, ivory and black.
Sophie Kyron is stocked in stores such as David Jones and boutiques including Belinda‚ and internationally at Coco Ribbon in London‚ and Hollywood’s Sheila Boutique. For more information, visit www.sophiekyron.com.au.
